Downtown Detroit

“What is it about the Olympics that is so interesting to you?” My friend Laura asked over Sunday morning coffee & donuts. Free plug for Yellow Light Donuts. Jefferson Ave. Detroit Michigan. If you are ever here, let me know and we’ll grab some coffee & donuts. It’s become a weekly tradition (habit?) for our family.

I had to think about the Olympics for a minute.

I think it’s the strange result of combining extraordinary commitment, competitive adrenaline, obscurity of some of the sports and storytelling of the participants from all across the USA. I think coordinating those attributes…

Week 271. I’m finishing up this week’s Saturday Cup of Joe in front of The Open Championship. Nothing more confounding to my family than golf on TV. I’ve been excited recently as my daughter has shown some interest in golf. Last Friday night, we tried the twilight round and were able to play about 7 holes after 7:30. Summer sun in Michigan last through about 9:45 pm. We have a city course about a mile and a half from our house. So perhaps I can keep the momentum going this summer.

I was talking to a few other Dads…

Mark’s Lake.

Bus-y-ness interferes with bus-i-ness.

I was thinking about missing the last 2 Saturday Cup of Joes. I don’t know if you even noticed, likely not, but there was no week 268 and 269. Just the second time I’d missed a week in 5 years and it was twice. But, oddly, it didn’t bother me. I really thought it would. But for a variety of reasons, I couldn’t make it happen or wasn’t satisfied with what I wanted to say.

As I thought about it more, I realized that it wasn’t because I was “too busy.” I’ve been busier…

Week 267 in Detroit.

Live more intentionally. It’s the underlying theme of so many motivational messages, personal development courses and inspirational quotes. Easy to see this and make it all or nothing. As if every single decision must be “more intentional” and massively different than what you are doing today. The reality is much more complex…as with almost everything on social media (as in life) there’s more to the story. Live more intentionally is the culmination of small, daily decisions not single monumental decisions.

Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are making big decisions. Where to live…

Week 266 in Detroit.

<assume I inserted a snappy and personal intro here>.

Have a great week and looking forward to connecting again this coming weekend.

Creative lead gen for growing cities: Suburban Jungle Group . My friend Rob Chrisman sent me this link because he knows I’m particularly curious about the storytelling for cities.

Creative and innovative way to attract real estate leads and drive traffic.

Glacier National Park from the top of Whitefish Mountain Resort.

We’re all familiar with that moment when someone brings up a movie that you haven’t seen and you just know what’s about to happen.

“You haven’t seen ____________! Oh, you have to. It’s amazing. You gotta see it.”

Every single one of us has been on both sides of that comment.

When you are on the side of the person who hasn’t seen the movie, it is usually super frustrating. It’s not like someone offered you a ticket or the chance to see it and you declined. …

Greetings from Whitefish, MT. The Saturday Cup of Joe from Detroit from Glacier. Photos next week.

A much needed week off to celebrate friends and family. Sit by the fire. Sing along to our favorite songs. Hike an incredible national park. Jump in a freezing cold lake. All the things.

Spring quickly into Summer in Detroit

There was that one time the Saturday Cup of Joe never came out. Week 262. That was it.

Week 263 in Detroit. Today I wanted to share a series of quotes I picked up over the last two weeks and then ask some questions. Hopefully you find some value in quotes & questions. I’ve included some housing links below to the trends that will define the next few years.

Happy Mother’s Day weekend to all the mothers out there. Hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow. I’ll be celebrating and remembering as well.

2 quick thoughts this week.

First, why do we want to return to normal?

Second, what insight do you bring to your role? What’s your insight?

Detroit, MI.

5 years of Saturday Cup of Joe. Yup, I had to do math in this week’s video — 52 x 5. This week’s commentary is all in the video with links & stories below.

Saturday Cup of Joe from Detroit:

Over 5 years, Saturday Cup of Joe has changed a little — sometimes on Saturdays, sometimes on Sundays — but always about what I saw or thought about this week. Much of what I still write about is the same too. Answer well. Next Belt. Housing. Innovation. …
